[00:00:00] It depends on who you're venting to.
[00:00:02] It depends on the nature of your relationship with that person at work, right?
[00:00:09] Welcome back folks.
[00:00:10] It's episode 127, but it's about payroll.
[00:00:16] One on a 38 for it's about your paycheck.
[00:00:20] It's about, yeah, it's about your paycheck and yeah, folks, it's a season in review.
[00:00:25] We are at the end of season 10 y'all.
[00:00:29] And before we get into all the good details, what is good?
[00:00:34] Man, happy Monday to you.
[00:00:36] Hope all's well.
[00:00:38] Man, I'm good.
[00:00:39] You good?
[00:00:40] No complaints, man.
[00:00:41] We're in the home stretch of the year.
[00:00:45] Oh my gosh.
[00:00:46] Q4.
[00:00:47] Q4.
[00:00:48] Q4.
[00:00:49] At the door.
[00:00:50] Where all the action happens.
[00:00:51] Oh my gosh.
[00:00:53] I can't even, man.
[00:00:55] Yeah.
[00:00:55] A lot going on like year in.
[00:00:59] Implementations.
[00:01:00] Everything is going on.
[00:01:01] A lot of moving parts.
[00:01:02] All at the same time.
[00:01:03] Yeah.
[00:01:03] All at the same time.
[00:01:05] This is where we, Aero pros and HR pros make the magic happen.
[00:01:10] Yeah.
[00:01:11] This is where they say, will you earn your pay?
[00:01:13] Yeah.
[00:01:13] Yeah.
[00:01:14] Oh man, I'm all right.
[00:01:17] We're in South Florida right now.
[00:01:19] So unfortunately there is a pending looming category five Milton storm coming.
[00:01:28] Yeah.
[00:01:28] We're just trying to make sure that we're paying attention.
[00:01:30] We're preparing properly.
[00:01:32] Doing, start trying to stay safe as best as we can and do what we gotta do.
[00:01:36] But God bless everybody in the path.
[00:01:39] Hopefully it just dies down to a storm, a rainstorm.
[00:01:43] Mm-hmm.
[00:01:44] And then nobody gets impacted.
[00:01:47] We just had a big storm last week.
[00:01:49] Folks got impacted and people lost homes and displaced and whatnot.
[00:01:55] So it's crazy, man.
[00:01:57] I just, God bless everybody that was impacted.
[00:01:59] God bless everybody in the path.
[00:02:01] Yeah.
[00:02:02] Frank, just be prepared.
[00:02:04] Do what you gotta do.
[00:02:06] So just dealing with that, man.
[00:02:09] Folks always get like, oh, why don't you evacuate?
[00:02:11] I'm like, it's not that easy.
[00:02:12] Yeah.
[00:02:13] Yeah.
[00:02:13] It's easier said than done.
[00:02:15] Cause.
[00:02:15] To pick.
[00:02:16] Eve.
[00:02:17] To come up with the thing.
[00:02:18] Something goes not.
[00:02:20] It's not that easy.
[00:02:22] Like right now we would have to leave now driving just to get out in time.
[00:02:26] It's not supposed to hit till Wednesday mornings.
[00:02:29] Now.
[00:02:29] Yeah.
[00:02:30] Wednesday morning is when it's Monday night right now.
[00:02:32] We would need to leave right now because it takes seven hours to get out of Florida from where we're at.
[00:02:39] And with all the traffic that's inevitably we're going to run into because people are, I'm sure people are leaving.
[00:02:45] We're going to evacuate.
[00:02:46] Yeah.
[00:02:47] We're going to evacuate.
[00:02:48] Yeah.
[00:02:49] It's crazy.
[00:02:50] I can't, there's flights of ridiculous.
[00:02:53] Like it's crazy.
[00:02:56] You know, I, um, what we have on our side is that I'm in the middle of the state ish.
[00:03:02] I'm closer to the Everglades than I am the coast.
[00:03:06] Hopefully, um, you know, I'm, I'm out of the, the, the worst of it all.
[00:03:11] And hopefully everybody, nobody gets the worst of it.
[00:03:15] That's about it, man.
[00:03:17] That's about it.
[00:03:17] Yeah.
[00:03:18] Definitely sending up prayers to everybody.
[00:03:20] It's in the path.
[00:03:21] Like you said, God bless everybody.
[00:03:23] And hopefully you can be safe, man.
[00:03:25] It was like back to, it's been years.
[00:03:27] There was, there were two stores back in the day that this kind of happened.
[00:03:30] Like within a week or so where they were two storms hit back to back like this in the same area.
[00:03:37] So yeah, man, it's crazy, bro.
[00:03:40] Yeah.
[00:03:41] What house for how powerful these storms are each time.
[00:03:44] You know, it is like category four, category three, category five.
[00:03:49] So this has been crazy.
[00:03:50] Yeah, man.
[00:03:51] Yeah, man.
[00:03:52] The last week's, did you guys get hit by that at all?
[00:03:55] With like rain or wind or whatever?
[00:03:57] We got a lot of rain.
[00:03:58] And there was a lot of flooding in parts of, even in my neighborhood.
[00:04:02] Luckily, the part of my neighborhood that I live on, on the hill.
[00:04:06] High.
[00:04:07] Oh, I was going to say, cause there's nothing but hills and valleys over there.
[00:04:09] So people getting flooded for sure.
[00:04:11] My apartment building is on the hill.
[00:04:13] Thank God.
[00:04:14] We went down to drive after the storm was over, man.
[00:04:17] And then people lost their cars and their cars are on like under, like underwater a little bit.
[00:04:23] Like it was crazy, bro.
[00:04:26] You were just like, man.
[00:04:27] Yeah.
[00:04:28] Yeah.
[00:04:28] Yeah, man.
[00:04:29] It's tough, man.
[00:04:29] It's tough.
[00:04:30] So God bless everybody.
[00:04:32] Yeah.
[00:04:32] So we are again, season in review folks, you know, we like to just recap what we did this season.
[00:04:38] And, um, I always say this is a cool cheat, right?
[00:04:42] Like if you listen to the season in review, you get a, uh, and if you missed the season or if you're joining us now, you know, you get, we give a recap of what we covered and what our favorites were during the season.
[00:04:54] Yep.
[00:04:54] Um, and maybe a little sneak peek as to what we're doing next season.
[00:04:58] Yeah.
[00:04:59] Yeah.
[00:05:00] I think our biggest step, can we start off?
[00:05:02] Oh, what we got to do here?
[00:05:03] No, we, we got to do, we got to pay some bills first, but then I do have an article.
[00:05:07] I do.
[00:05:08] No, we'll do the article first and then we can pay bills.
[00:05:10] Yeah.
[00:05:10] So it's just a quick article on payord.
[00:05:13] Um, they, they announced that a member of payord, Christine Wilson, she's a CPP certified.
[00:05:23] She's been selected to serve on the IRS's electronic tax administration advisory committee.
[00:05:31] Oh, that's awesome.
[00:05:32] So, you know, she's going to serve for three years beginning this month.
[00:05:38] So, yeah, I think that was in September.
[00:05:42] So correct me if I'm wrong, Christine, if you're listening, but she's currently a global, uh, director of global payroll at talk desk, which is a full remote.
[00:05:52] A full organization based in Washington.
[00:05:55] So just wanted to shout her out.
[00:05:56] It was great to see some payroll folks out there getting their accolades and getting these certain type of opportunities, you know, giving to them and gratitude and stuff.
[00:06:07] So I just wanted to shout her out.
[00:06:08] I thought it was a good article for, by payroll Oregon.
[00:06:11] Just wanted to shout that out.
[00:06:12] That's great.
[00:06:13] No.
[00:06:13] And I think it's awesome that you did because for payroll, for employees, they might say, why do we care?
[00:06:22] The reason that it's important for employees is to have a payroll advocate or a payroll professional on these type of boards.
[00:06:31] It, they get to, you, we, you get to have an employee advocate, so to speak, impacting the decisions that the IRS is making because the, they don't really get.
[00:06:43] They're out there making policies and no disrespect to them, but they're making policies and they're making things and they're doing things.
[00:06:49] They don't know how it really rolls out to someone's paycheck.
[00:06:52] Yeah.
[00:06:53] Right.
[00:06:54] Yeah.
[00:06:59] So maybe she can impact some things that will help our paycheck, help it be easier on us.
[00:07:08] And then on the payroll professional side, it helps make the payroll pros jobs a little easier because again, she's telling you from firsthand, she's telling the IRS, this is what we deal with.
[00:07:22] This is what we deal with.
[00:07:23] Hey, that may impact this X, Y, Z and the ripple effects that they don't think about.
[00:07:30] Right.
[00:07:30] Right.
[00:07:31] Exactly.
[00:07:31] Especially with her experience, right?
[00:07:33] Like she's currently the director of global payroll.
[00:07:36] Yep.
[00:07:37] Your current company.
[00:07:38] Right.
[00:07:38] So all the experience, all the exposure she's had.
[00:07:41] Yes.
[00:07:42] Different tax.
[00:07:44] Taxing is in different regions of the world and areas of the world.
[00:07:48] So she might be able to really go in here and help when it comes to all the points that you mentioned, right?
[00:07:54] Like from a business standpoint and employer and employee standpoint, where they go in here and advocate for the middle class or for the little blue collar workers and stuff or whatever.
[00:08:07] I think it's great.
[00:08:09] I think it's a great opportunity and I'm excited for them.
[00:08:11] Yep.
[00:08:12] It's awesome.
[00:08:13] Congratulations.
[00:08:13] Word up.
[00:08:14] That's dope.
[00:08:15] That's dope.
[00:08:15] All right.
[00:08:16] Let's pay some bills, man.
[00:08:18] Shout out to Time Track Go.
[00:08:19] Time Track Go has introduced an innovative new feature designed to simplify time tracking for both exempt and non-exempt employees.
[00:08:29] This feature aligns with the recent changes in the Fair Labor Standards Act for salaried employees.
[00:08:37] 40-hour work weeks and accurately determining overtime when necessary.
[00:08:41] Time Track Go ensures precise employee time while maintaining accurate PTO balances.
[00:08:47] Additionally, the system can identify instances where non-exempt employees may not have reached that 40-hour threshold.
[00:08:56] For more, please contact Time Track Go at 888-321-9922 or visit www.timetrackgo.com.
[00:09:06] That's T-I-M-E-T-R-A-K-GO.com.
[00:09:11] Let's go.
[00:09:12] Let's go.
[00:09:13] All right.
[00:09:14] All right.
[00:09:16] Yeah.
[00:09:16] I love season and reviews because, again, I think it's really cool to talk about what we did this season, talk about where we're going next season.
[00:09:24] Folks could easily jump back on things.
[00:09:27] And, oh, wow.
[00:09:29] Yeah, I missed that in the season.
[00:09:30] Go check it out.
[00:09:33] So our first question is, what was your favorite thing about this season 10?
[00:09:39] Are two, both shows, season 10 for IAP and season four for IAP.
[00:09:45] It's about payroll.
[00:09:46] It's about your paycheck.
[00:09:48] Why don't you go first, Wolf?
[00:09:49] So for me, it was those parts that we spoke to, the employee impact, which is also the purpose of why we created It's About Your Paycheck.
[00:09:58] Talking about the rant.
[00:10:01] What do I do if I pay my rent?
[00:10:03] Yeah.
[00:10:05] And what can I do if I can't pay my rent?
[00:10:07] That was a good one, by the way.
[00:10:09] You know what I'm saying?
[00:10:10] Like the workplace bullies episode was another good one that I talked about.
[00:10:14] A lot of people don't really talk about, right?
[00:10:17] Like a lot of people don't really discuss those things because maybe you're in a position as an employee or even a payroll process or a professional or even an HR professional.
[00:10:27] You might be in a position where you might be being bullied or even targeted by someone in management.
[00:10:33] And as, even though we don't want those things to be true, some of those things are still unfortunately happening in this day.
[00:10:44] Yep.
[00:10:45] Yep.
[00:10:45] So like for me, those are some of the things that stuck out about season four of It's About Your Paycheck.
[00:10:53] And for It's About Payroll, we touched on the different states.
[00:10:58] I like how we introduced that and we're starting to get more detailed about different things and focusing.
[00:11:05] Hey, instead of just covering the states in one general blanket, we're actually going to, you know, we started breaking those things out.
[00:11:12] So I really started, I'm enjoying that because it's refreshing some things that I already knew, but I find myself learning little nuggets here and there about different things.
[00:11:23] So that for me is what stuck out so far in these two seasons.
[00:11:28] So for It's About Your Paycheck, it's like the opposite for me.
[00:11:35] For It's About Your Paycheck, I like that we are drilling in to the little things that employees should be learning.
[00:11:44] On the state levels, arming them with information.
[00:11:49] The one that sticks out for me is like how we did New York retail workers.
[00:11:55] They're limited into the hour, whether they call it clopening, where if you close late at night and open early in the morning, there's a limit to how many hours that gap can be, how short that gap can be.
[00:12:11] Yeah.
[00:12:12] So it can't be too short because if you close really late and open, I remember I had friends in retail and I think it was retail and it was another one for fast food as well.
[00:12:25] And I'm trying to, now I'm trying to be like, wait, point the point folks back to that episode, but it's in season four.
[00:12:32] It's in there.
[00:12:33] And I think it was, oh man, I don't have episode there.
[00:12:40] But for New York, anywho.
[00:12:43] I want to take a break real quick just to let you know about a new show we've just added to the network.
[00:12:49] Up Next at Work, hosted by Gene and Kate Akil of the Devin Group.
[00:12:55] Fantastic show.
[00:12:57] If you're looking for something that pushes the norm, pushes the boundaries, has some really spirited conversations, Google Up Next at Work, Gene and Kate Akil from the Devin Group.
[00:13:11] Little things like that.
[00:13:13] And I feel like I'm sure people abuse that and folks are getting taken advantage of and it's know your rights as an employee in different industries.
[00:13:24] Keep in mind in New York and California are two of the most employee-centric states.
[00:13:30] Yeah.
[00:13:30] So you need to really know your rights in New York and California because they could be doing stuff that is not even legal.
[00:13:36] Yeah.
[00:13:36] The title of the episode was, I work in New York.
[00:13:39] What should I know?
[00:13:40] I think that's the episode.
[00:13:41] There we go.
[00:13:42] Yes, I see.
[00:13:43] Yep.
[00:13:45] So I like that we started to, like you said, just drill down because it's so much.
[00:13:53] And as payroll professionals, we're used to covering lengthy topics and dense things.
[00:13:59] And it's like, wait a minute.
[00:14:00] As an employee, I don't want to hear all this.
[00:14:03] Like, I got attention for five minutes on something good, if that, right?
[00:14:08] Yes, that's one of the key points that you made when we started this podcast for IYP, right?
[00:14:16] It's about your paycheck.
[00:14:17] It's like you wanted it to be digestible.
[00:14:19] Yes.
[00:14:19] You didn't want somebody to be talking at you for an hour.
[00:14:23] Even a half hour.
[00:14:24] Oh my gosh.
[00:14:25] Like, because I am a consumer of podcasts.
[00:14:29] I love podcasts.
[00:14:33] And, but for news and learning, I have a little less bandwidth for it.
[00:14:40] Like, a lot less tolerance, actually.
[00:14:43] So, because I love, and the news, they do it right.
[00:14:47] They do Wall Street Journal, Fox News, ABC News, all these different news outlets.
[00:14:52] They do it right.
[00:14:54] 30 seconds, one minute.
[00:14:56] Fast Company has another one, too.
[00:14:58] It's a minute or two, five minutes at most.
[00:15:02] And, and it, that's it.
[00:15:04] Because that's all I have the capacity for.
[00:15:08] Because I'm working.
[00:15:09] I'm usually listening to this stuff while I'm working.
[00:15:11] And sometimes I can't even listen to it while I'm working because I need to think.
[00:15:16] And the good nuggets catch my attention and it distracts me from work.
[00:15:20] And I'm like, wait a minute, I got to switch to music.
[00:15:22] Because you can't get into that flow rate when you're trying to learn two things.
[00:15:27] No, I need to focus on work.
[00:15:29] So, I love the little nuggets, the short, quick bites.
[00:15:35] As opposed to drink champs where it's entertaining and maybe two, three hours.
[00:15:40] And it takes me days to listen to it, but I'm entertained.
[00:15:43] I'm, that's a whole nother experience.
[00:15:45] You're laughing.
[00:15:46] It's touching all the senses, right?
[00:15:48] It's touching.
[00:15:48] All the senses.
[00:15:49] And they may say something that pisses you off.
[00:15:52] They may say something that makes you sad or, you know, something that you can relate to or something that makes you happy.
[00:15:57] It can touch all the different senses.
[00:15:59] And, you know, that's what we're trying to get to when it comes to this about your paycheck.
[00:16:05] Yeah.
[00:16:06] Yeah.
[00:16:06] We just want to give you those short bursts of good info.
[00:16:10] And you guys, of course, you can stay alone for the ride.
[00:16:13] And we've shortened our episodes.
[00:16:15] As you'll notice going forward, folks, we went from an hour in change, somewhere between 45 minutes and an hour and a half.
[00:16:23] Right.
[00:16:23] And some of them.
[00:16:24] Now we are committed to doing 30 minutes.
[00:16:27] Speaking of that, we got to cut this short.
[00:16:29] We got to.
[00:16:29] Yeah.
[00:16:30] You know, no, but we're almost done.
[00:16:33] What are you going to say?
[00:16:34] No, you're absolutely right.
[00:16:35] And that was before I was just going to say a little, a little thing about how that was after the editing.
[00:16:42] Oh my gosh.
[00:16:44] Yes.
[00:16:44] After the editing.
[00:16:45] Word.
[00:16:46] Mind you, that's after cutting it down.
[00:16:48] Yeah.
[00:16:48] We would cut at least 15, 20 minutes off of every episode.
[00:16:52] So, and, but we've also gotten better.
[00:16:54] So it's crazy, right?
[00:16:55] Because we've also gotten more efficient.
[00:16:57] Yeah.
[00:16:57] More effective.
[00:16:57] Like we don't go on tangents.
[00:16:59] Now that I think the 30 minute limit, that's what we put ourselves in.
[00:17:04] Give or take five minutes, folks.
[00:17:06] Yeah.
[00:17:06] But the 30 minute limit has made us more efficient at just, we're watching the time.
[00:17:12] We're on topic.
[00:17:13] We're on subject.
[00:17:14] So we promise to deliver that.
[00:17:16] I love that part.
[00:17:17] The evolution.
[00:17:18] Being more intentional.
[00:17:20] Yes.
[00:17:20] Being more intentional.
[00:17:21] Yeah.
[00:17:21] This is two years in the making for us that, and it, and it's all been amazing things.
[00:17:29] That's all.
[00:17:30] It's about your paycheck.
[00:17:31] So now it's about payroll.
[00:17:34] I love that we did.
[00:17:35] We started off season 10 doing a swap cast with Pete and Julie from payroll and HR 2.0.
[00:17:43] That was, they're so cool, man.
[00:17:44] I love, I gotta, we gotta, I think we gotta do that again with them.
[00:17:48] Um, and now that we're label mates, we're network mates with Pete and Julie shout out to work
[00:17:57] defined.
[00:17:58] We have joined a network, a podcast network.
[00:18:03] That the payroll and HR 2.0 show is on.
[00:18:07] And there are a few other shows.
[00:18:08] So listen out.
[00:18:09] You'll hear, you're going to start to hear promos in our shows of the other shows on our
[00:18:13] network.
[00:18:14] And I'm so excited to work with these guys, man, and work with the network has been, it's
[00:18:19] been really, it's an honor to just be considered for these things.
[00:18:25] And so that was huge in this season to, to, to, to join the network work, shout out to work
[00:18:32] defined and IAP continues to go along, man.
[00:18:36] We get amazing support from our payroll colleagues.
[00:18:41] Shout out to all the payrollers out there.
[00:18:43] Shout out to our guests too.
[00:18:45] We have some amazing guests, Tiffany.
[00:18:47] Yes.
[00:18:47] How can I.
[00:18:49] Yes.
[00:18:50] Keenan.
[00:18:51] Yes.
[00:18:51] Oh man.
[00:18:52] That's right.
[00:18:53] Yes.
[00:18:54] Brittany for, Oh no.
[00:18:55] Yeah.
[00:18:56] Brittany for has been on.
[00:18:57] We were supposed to do, we did a, we recorded an episode, but the sound quality was horrible.
[00:19:04] Now I'm bugging her to try to get back on because we still got to make up that episode,
[00:19:10] Brittany.
[00:19:10] Brittany, you listening?
[00:19:12] Yup.
[00:19:13] We're waiting for you, but she's busy.
[00:19:15] Shout out to Brittany because she is also a creator in the payroll space.
[00:19:19] She's an amazing creative person in the payroll space.
[00:19:24] I love what she's bringing to the table.
[00:19:26] Just a single force to be reckoned with out there doing her thing.
[00:19:31] And, um, go check her out.
[00:19:34] Brittany for out on LinkedIn.
[00:19:36] She's building her audience.
[00:19:38] Matter of fact, she blessed me with this poster right here for national payroll week.
[00:19:43] Like I have a payday t-shirt that I got from her.
[00:19:46] Like I rocked it during national payroll.
[00:19:48] I gotta, I wear it on the weekends a lot and I just gotta, so it's always dirty during
[00:19:54] the week.
[00:19:54] Cause I'll be wearing it on the weekends.
[00:19:55] I gotta keep it for the Monday nights.
[00:19:58] Yeah.
[00:19:59] Okay, man.
[00:20:00] Yeah.
[00:20:00] It was, it was a good season.
[00:20:02] Oh, season.
[00:20:03] Before we move to our next question here.
[00:20:06] Yeah.
[00:20:07] No.
[00:20:08] Oh, damn.
[00:20:09] We got another question.
[00:20:10] We, we did the, it was national payroll week during.
[00:20:14] Yes.
[00:20:14] He's in 10 and we did those little segments, those little information bites that we put
[00:20:19] out.
[00:20:19] That was really exciting.
[00:20:20] Yes.
[00:20:21] Good.
[00:20:21] I enjoyed doing that.
[00:20:23] You know, every day me and Walt alternated, we dropped a little, just a little info, just a
[00:20:28] little something, just to do something more for national payroll week.
[00:20:31] Yeah.
[00:20:32] Um, get, just getting some more content out there.
[00:20:36] Shout.
[00:20:36] Yo, go check my boy wall out on Tik TOK.
[00:20:40] Wall is building such an incredible presence out on Tik TOK.
[00:20:44] He's almost at a thousand.
[00:20:45] Please help us get to a thousand.
[00:20:47] Walter.
[00:20:48] Do you know your at thing on payroll Ninja on Tik TOK?
[00:20:54] But if we get to, when we get to a thousand, we're going to go live.
[00:20:57] Yeah.
[00:20:57] We're going to take the show live.
[00:20:59] A lot of my posts are just about positivity, about fruit for stuff like that.
[00:21:04] You know, things to keep in mind just in your professional, your personal life and stuff
[00:21:09] like that.
[00:21:10] Oh yeah.
[00:21:10] I'm going to, I think it's, I just, I think it's a good life lessons.
[00:21:14] Walt was just dropping nuggets on life.
[00:21:17] Something that I had encouraged him about for a long time.
[00:21:20] Cause he's always such a, he's a thoughtful person.
[00:21:23] Always giving grace.
[00:21:24] Like I was like, girl, you need to do something with that.
[00:21:26] Do something with that.
[00:21:27] And he did.
[00:21:27] And it's building on Tik TOK.
[00:21:29] We're almost at a thousand over there.
[00:21:31] So please go support payroll Ninja on Tik TOK.
[00:21:34] Get us to get him to a thousand.
[00:21:35] So we could be through the go live.
[00:21:38] Um, let's move to the next question.
[00:21:40] What can listeners expect from upcoming season, a more efficient, effective show, right?
[00:21:46] Again, dropping down to 30 minutes, more on work defined, being more intentional.
[00:21:54] Have you ever been to a webinar where the topic was great, but there wasn't enough time to ask
[00:21:58] questions or have a dialogue to learn more?
[00:22:00] Well, welcome to HR and payroll 2.0, the podcast where those post webinar questions become
[00:22:05] episodes.
[00:22:06] We feature HR practitioners, leaders, and founders of HR payroll and workplace innovation and
[00:22:11] transformation, sharing their insights and lessons learned from the trenches.
[00:22:14] We dig in to share the knowledge and tips that can help modern HR and payroll leaders navigate
[00:22:19] the challenges and opportunities ahead.
[00:22:21] So join us for highly authentic unscripted conversations and let's learn together.
[00:22:26] And, and really we are going to continue to focus in on the States.
[00:22:30] What, as, as far as paycheck is concerned.
[00:22:34] And I love, we talk about it offline a lot.
[00:22:37] I love gearing the show to the employees because it's two for the price of one for pay rollers.
[00:22:45] Yeah.
[00:22:46] Right.
[00:22:46] Anything we talk about on a paycheck impacts a pay roller.
[00:22:50] So we, they already know, right?
[00:22:52] Like we're talking about a Texas or California or a New York legislate compliance or whatever
[00:23:00] it is, they already know.
[00:23:02] Oh, wait a minute.
[00:23:02] What?
[00:23:02] That's true.
[00:23:03] Oh, hold on now.
[00:23:04] They can do audits and do things and catch that in their systems.
[00:23:08] And then there, they got the data.
[00:23:09] They could look for it in their data to see if it's happening.
[00:23:13] And so it's two for the price of one for it's about your paycheck.
[00:23:17] And then we will still continue to do.
[00:23:19] It's about payroll.
[00:23:20] What we tried to do in 10 and this, these past two seasons is we wanted to do one show
[00:23:28] and broadcast it on both networks, on both channels, right?
[00:23:31] Both shows.
[00:23:33] It was an experiment.
[00:23:36] It works sometimes, but it doesn't work every time.
[00:23:41] So now that we are on work defined and we're building, continue to build these platforms
[00:23:49] and these shows, we're going to be intentional about making sure that we give, it's about
[00:23:53] your paycheck.
[00:23:53] It's due respect.
[00:23:55] It's about payroll.
[00:23:56] It's a respect.
[00:23:57] So we're still going to develop the things about like when a topic doesn't serve both
[00:24:01] audiences, then it's going to be two different shows.
[00:24:05] If it does serve both audiences, then it'll be one show.
[00:24:08] So they probably won't notice too much, but it's about the payrollers might go over to
[00:24:14] the other one and be like, oh, I just heard this over there.
[00:24:16] I'll wait till the next one.
[00:24:17] So something to think about.
[00:24:18] We're going to be more intentional about those things and just servicing both audiences.
[00:24:24] What do you think?
[00:24:25] What do you think?
[00:24:26] Man, you can drop the mic on that.
[00:24:28] Everything you said, I guess exactly where I was going with it.
[00:24:33] Okay.
[00:24:33] We're just going to keep learning, keep growing and keep going.
[00:24:37] Keep going.
[00:24:37] Word up.
[00:24:38] More guests.
[00:24:39] Keep getting more.
[00:24:40] Ooh, you know what I do want to do?
[00:24:42] What I have been doing is reaching out to other creators on TikTok and Instagram to come
[00:24:47] on the show and share with us.
[00:24:50] You know what I mean?
[00:24:51] There is.
[00:24:53] I don't know if you've seen Veronica.
[00:24:55] She does a lot of HR stuff on TikTok and Instagram.
[00:24:58] I would love to.
[00:24:59] I got it.
[00:25:00] The thing is these really popular creators probably get so much in their sweat is they
[00:25:06] have flooded with.
[00:25:06] So it's hard to find.
[00:25:08] It's hard to get them to give us attention.
[00:25:11] And there's another one I just found, Coupon Queen in Orlando.
[00:25:16] I sent it to you.
[00:25:18] Yeah, you did.
[00:25:19] Breaking it down or saving money.
[00:25:21] It's showing you how to go to Publix.
[00:25:23] It can be for the employees.
[00:25:24] Yeah.
[00:25:25] It's just for the employees.
[00:25:26] Exactly.
[00:25:26] Both of them, really.
[00:25:27] I see Veronica could be for both audiences.
[00:25:32] And then, yeah, Coupon Queen is geared definitely at It's About Your Paycheck.
[00:25:36] How do you leverage that money?
[00:25:37] How do you stretch a dollar?
[00:25:38] And I love you.
[00:25:41] So I'm trying to get folks like that onto the show for the employees, for it to buy your
[00:25:49] paycheck so we can learn.
[00:25:50] Folks can learn how to, oh man, I didn't even think about it.
[00:25:53] Because the Coupon Queen, I hope this goes viral and gets her attention because she does
[00:25:59] Publix.
[00:26:00] I think she does a ton of other things too, but the ones I catch are Publix.
[00:26:03] Like people complain that Publix is expensive.
[00:26:06] But she debunks that.
[00:26:07] She's like, get the app, get the flyers, get manufacturers coupons, and you get a lot of
[00:26:13] coupons and you save money that way.
[00:26:16] I saw her Linktree.
[00:26:18] She has a ton of other things that she's doing.
[00:26:20] So I would love for her to come on.
[00:26:21] That'd be exciting.
[00:26:22] To each other.
[00:26:23] Yeah.
[00:26:23] So I just, I don't know how to get at these creators, folks.
[00:26:26] If y'all know how to get at these creators somehow in a more effective manner, please let us know.
[00:26:32] You can DM them.
[00:26:33] You can tag them.
[00:26:34] This one, I can't DM her.
[00:26:37] She doesn't take DMs on TikTok.
[00:26:39] Oh, okay.
[00:26:39] Maybe on Instagram.
[00:26:40] Maybe I could switch to Instagram, but I tried it.
[00:26:42] But so yeah.
[00:26:43] I was like, oh man, she'll even take DMs.
[00:26:45] Yeah.
[00:26:45] Maybe mention her or something like that or whatever.
[00:26:49] I dropped it in the comments.
[00:26:51] But of course she gets, she's popular.
[00:26:53] She gets thousands of comments.
[00:26:54] A lot of with that.
[00:26:55] Yeah.
[00:26:56] Yeah.
[00:26:57] Yeah, man.
[00:26:58] More things like that.
[00:26:59] More things like that.
[00:27:00] More payroll professionals on.
[00:27:03] And yeah.
[00:27:04] Good guests.
[00:27:05] Good content.
[00:27:06] Continuing on.
[00:27:07] Building our network.
[00:27:09] Work defined.
[00:27:10] We'll bring new horizons and new milestones that we'll hit.
[00:27:15] Yeah, man.
[00:27:15] I'm excited, bro.
[00:27:16] I'm excited.
[00:27:17] Me too, man.
[00:27:18] All right.
[00:27:19] What's up?
[00:27:19] That's great stuff.
[00:27:21] So this is more so like employee centric.
[00:27:26] Good one.
[00:27:27] But I think I feel like as payroll pros, as employees, because we still are employees.
[00:27:31] We are employees.
[00:27:32] You know, this is an employee thing.
[00:27:33] Yeah.
[00:27:34] It works both.
[00:27:35] So for you, Brian, and those of you who are listening, I want you to think about this question too.
[00:27:40] So anytime we ask each other these questions, I want you to think about it as well for yourself as the employee or the professional listening to this, right?
[00:27:48] Do you feel that venting about work to your coworkers is more beneficial or harmful?
[00:27:56] Period.
[00:27:57] Beneficial, harmful for ourselves.
[00:27:59] And our.
[00:28:00] Yep.
[00:28:01] Yeah.
[00:28:01] It's a tough one, man.
[00:28:02] I'll go because I have my, my ass.
[00:28:05] Oh, go for it.
[00:28:06] So I, for me, and I don't like to be in this great, the gray area, but for me, I think it depends.
[00:28:15] It depends on who you're venting to.
[00:28:18] It depends on the nature of your relationship with that person at work.
[00:28:24] Right.
[00:28:24] And like, like you said, something you always say this squeaky wheel, right?
[00:28:31] Yeah.
[00:28:31] Yeah.
[00:28:31] And if you're venting to the right person, it could eventually be beneficial for you.
[00:28:37] If you vent to the wrong person, you know, there's some people out there who are playing the game.
[00:28:43] They'll take that information and either they'll spread that information or they'll judge you or both.
[00:28:52] I think that in my honest opinion, I think that it honestly depends.
[00:28:58] Okay.
[00:28:58] That's fair.
[00:28:59] That's fair.
[00:29:00] I think that you should only do it.
[00:29:04] And I think this is more of a, I think this is a good rule of thumb for life.
[00:29:10] It's not only work or whatever.
[00:29:14] Don't vent.
[00:29:15] Don't say things behind somebody's back that you can't say to them, to their face.
[00:29:23] That's how I operate.
[00:29:28] You know what you should know?
[00:29:30] You should know the, you should know podcast.
[00:29:33] That's what you should know.
[00:29:35] Because then you'd be in the know on all things that are timely and topical.
[00:29:39] Subscribe to the, you should know podcast.
[00:29:42] Thanks.
[00:29:43] If it's people driven, it could be, it could be some things that nobody even has control over.
[00:29:51] Oh, I got to vent around about this storm and oh my gosh, we got to work through the storm.
[00:29:56] You know, I was just at a store and I was like, you guys closing for, and they're like, no, we're essential.
[00:30:01] We got to stay over.
[00:30:02] I was like, oh damn.
[00:30:03] Um, yeah.
[00:30:05] So I was like, oh, you know, so that could, that has no people impact.
[00:30:10] There's just a company power.
[00:30:12] Like, what are you gonna do?
[00:30:13] So beyond, if it, you know, if you're venting and there's people involved in that, then I think, but again, like I always, there's a, there's a phrase that I heard that really helped me understand.
[00:30:29] Don't tell me what, or something like, don't tell me what somebody told about me.
[00:30:36] Like, why did they tell you?
[00:30:39] Right.
[00:30:40] Something like that.
[00:30:41] I'm not saying it, but there's something like that.
[00:30:43] Wait a minute.
[00:30:44] Here it goes.
[00:30:44] Don't tell me what people said about me.
[00:30:47] Tell me why they were so comfortable telling you.
[00:30:50] There you go.
[00:30:52] There you go.
[00:30:53] Thank you.
[00:30:53] You cut that, found that quick.
[00:30:55] So that's what I think.
[00:30:56] So I just, now I just operate in a manner where I'm not going to say it to anybody unless I'm willing to say it in front of the, whoever I'm talking about, or if it impacts that person.
[00:31:07] You know what I'm saying?
[00:31:07] Yeah.
[00:31:08] If it's people centric.
[00:31:10] I think it's a good rule of thumb because if you may be having, you may actually be having an issue, a legitimate issue with a person.
[00:31:17] Yep.
[00:31:17] I think you need to identify if it's a people or if it's a person problem or if it's a policy or process problems like you.
[00:31:25] Right.
[00:31:25] Or speaking to.
[00:31:26] Right.
[00:31:27] Right.
[00:31:27] Find out which P it is.
[00:31:28] People.
[00:31:29] Right.
[00:31:29] Process.
[00:31:29] Yeah.
[00:31:30] Yeah.
[00:31:30] And, you know, find out which one it is.
[00:31:32] Right.
[00:31:33] The three P's.
[00:31:34] Yeah.
[00:31:34] Joel, our old boss and mentor, Joel O'Connell used to say, it's three P's.
[00:31:41] He said doing business period is three P's.
[00:31:44] People.
[00:31:46] Was it people policy?
[00:31:47] No, people process.
[00:31:50] What'd you just say?
[00:31:51] People.
[00:31:51] I said people process or policy.
[00:31:54] There you go.
[00:31:55] Yep.
[00:31:56] So, you know.
[00:31:59] So, yeah.
[00:31:59] But again, yeah.
[00:32:01] I just.
[00:32:02] So, whether it's beneficial, what is good or bad, I'm not going to say it unless I'm willing to say it to your face.
[00:32:09] Yeah.
[00:32:09] You know what I mean?
[00:32:10] I don't like, I'm not trying to talk behind nobody's back.
[00:32:14] And look, sometimes you venting may be the, I always say, the first domino.
[00:32:20] Yeah.
[00:32:21] That is the first to fall in that chain of change.
[00:32:25] Right.
[00:32:25] It's true.
[00:32:26] So.
[00:32:26] No doubt.
[00:32:28] Even if it's harmful to you.
[00:32:31] Even if it's harmful to you there and people say, oh, you're, you're an ass.
[00:32:36] You're an asshole.
[00:32:37] Right.
[00:32:38] But because you said something may have caused, may have challenged the way people think and do things there.
[00:32:45] That's why I say it depends, bro.
[00:32:47] But look.
[00:32:49] Some of you might be like, I don't vent at all.
[00:32:52] Some of you might be like, yeah, I'm not at work.
[00:32:55] Yeah.
[00:32:55] No, people vent.
[00:32:56] I think that's crazy to taste, to hear you don't vent at all.
[00:33:00] I don't believe that.
[00:33:02] Maybe you don't vent at work and maybe you're very specific or maybe some people just kind of, I think people have to let it out and blow off steam is the phrase.
[00:33:13] Outlet.
[00:33:13] Right.
[00:33:13] Yeah.
[00:33:14] Have some type of outlet.
[00:33:15] If I'm being vulnerable, I had taken a mental health test recently.
[00:33:25] And I guess it checked for depression for one of them was one of the things.
[00:33:31] And my doctor came back and was like, you're either lying or that was the only conclusion she had.
[00:33:40] She's like, you're not taking this serious.
[00:33:42] She got mad.
[00:33:42] She was like, you're not taking this seriously.
[00:33:43] You're lying.
[00:33:46] Because my score was zero for depression.
[00:33:49] And she said, everybody has a score.
[00:33:54] There's no, even the most healthiest person has a score.
[00:33:58] It was depression.
[00:33:59] And I think it was like worrying or something like that.
[00:34:02] Yeah.
[00:34:02] We had the other category and I came up zero on both.
[00:34:05] She's like, you're not being honest.
[00:34:10] And so then I'm working through those things because I think what it really leads to is detachment.
[00:34:18] Like when it, when if something gets too stressful, I may detach and disconnect.
[00:34:23] Mm-hmm.
[00:34:24] And not be dealing with it and not venting properly and not talking through the things properly and dealing with things properly.
[00:34:30] I don't know how I got there, but just sharing folks because it's.
[00:34:34] Thank you for that.
[00:34:35] Thank you for that.
[00:34:36] Because there's somebody that's listening to this episode right now that that is going to strike a chord in them.
[00:34:41] I hope so.
[00:34:43] And I thank you for expressing that and sharing that with us and the payroll community, man, because we need more transparency.
[00:34:52] That's, that was one of the things that Keenan spoke about.
[00:34:55] I was just going to shout Keenan out.
[00:34:57] Yep.
[00:34:57] Right.
[00:34:57] Exactly right.
[00:34:58] I was just going to shout Keenan out because he's ever since I talked to Keenan last year, I was on his show.
[00:35:03] And then we had Keenan on this show.
[00:35:04] Just an amazing dude pushing wellness and positivity and his company is great.
[00:35:12] And Francis is the name of his company.
[00:35:15] And go check him out.
[00:35:18] And yeah.
[00:35:20] Yeah.
[00:35:20] Again, I don't know what got me there, but being honest, venting, blown off state, like you need outlet.
[00:35:26] People need outlets.
[00:35:28] I think maybe that was the thread, but yeah, just being honest about things.
[00:35:35] Sir.
[00:35:36] I think that's it, man.
[00:35:37] Thank you.
[00:35:38] Yeah.
[00:35:40] Does it, is it harmful or hurtful?
[00:35:41] I think you need to, I think you need to be honest at the end of the day.
[00:35:45] And I think that whatever you say, you got to be willing to say it.
[00:35:49] If it's a person on the other end of it that you're talking about, but you got to be able to, if you can't.
[00:35:54] Really?
[00:35:55] Don't say it then.
[00:35:56] Don't bring it up.
[00:35:58] Yep.
[00:36:00] All right.
[00:36:00] That's it, man.
[00:36:01] That's it.
[00:36:02] So yeah, look out folks.
[00:36:04] We're going to keep on rolling here and we'll be starting up the next season next week.
[00:36:09] You'll hear season 11 and five.
[00:36:13] Yeah.
[00:36:14] It's a payroll.
[00:36:16] True, true crime.
[00:36:17] Oh yes.
[00:36:18] It's true crime.
[00:36:19] Yes.
[00:36:19] There's a Wendy's story that I want to talk about.
[00:36:22] I think Brittany first sent it to us, right?
[00:36:24] Yes, she did.
[00:36:24] Yep.
[00:36:25] Brittany, we doing that one.
[00:36:27] You should come on and do it with us.
[00:36:29] I know.
[00:36:30] Big time.
[00:36:31] You big time.
[00:36:33] You big time on us now.
[00:36:34] You don't got big on us now.
[00:36:36] So you, you big time on us.
[00:36:40] You busy.
[00:36:40] You busy, but no, she's a mom as well.
[00:36:43] Yeah.
[00:36:44] Yeah.
[00:36:44] Yeah.
[00:36:45] I'm just, we just bustle your chops, but we'll definitely, she'll definitely come back on.
[00:36:49] It was just, it's just a matter of time.
[00:36:51] But yeah, I like the Wendy story.
[00:36:53] I think it's a great, I think it's great.
[00:36:55] Both sides, you know, a great employee.
[00:36:58] There's an employee thing to learn on that as an employee.
[00:37:01] And of course, payroll side, there's always some, again, anything that deals with paycheck
[00:37:05] and employee is going to have some learning fights for payroll people.
[00:37:11] That'll be a cool show on both platforms.
[00:37:16] And that's it, man.
[00:37:18] That's it.
[00:37:18] That's it.
[00:37:19] Everybody.
[00:37:20] We love you.
[00:37:21] Peace.
[00:37:21] Peace.
