[00:00:00] We have a young, vibrant lady on she leaks.
[00:00:02] We go the editing for us.
[00:00:04] And she made a top list.
[00:00:05] You guys were number one on her top payroll, old cost list.
[00:00:10] Welcome to our podcast.
[00:00:12] It's about payroll.
[00:00:14] We're your host, Brian Escobar, and Walter William
[00:00:17] Duncan III.
[00:00:18] Whether you're new to the payroll game or seasoned veteran,
[00:00:22] we have something for you.
[00:00:25] Welcome back, folks. I saw some friends that we haven't seen in the wild, so it was cool. Yeah, yeah, it was nice. I know, yeah, I'm excited about football today, excited about this episode. And before we get into it, just want to give you a little payroll news update. And the ball is gonna walk us through a few things that he's found, some trends with young people. Yeah, so today's show, as Brian said,
[00:01:41] or alluded to earlier,
[00:01:42] it's about global payroll and attracting
[00:02:45] probably have more automation in their processes and how they do things. In 2024, it says that 91% of businesses will use automation to modernize their operations.
[00:02:52] Wow, right?
[00:02:53] That is going to really help bring in young people and, you know, keep engaged and stuff.
[00:02:59] Yes.
[00:03:00] Keep them engaged.
[00:03:01] Yep.
[00:03:02] GIB work is another thing though for young employees.
[00:03:04] So this may counteract people getting into payroll. learning again that personalized customer employee experience was into that personalized learning focus on soft skills and leadership development, creating a learning culture and bite-sized content, which I found was interesting because people want to, hey, I'm not going to give you
[00:04:20] this whole thing, you know, all that wants, hey, here's this
[00:04:23] little bit, here's that little pretty much all I had. Do you want to talk about any of those or anything?
[00:05:40] Stand out to you from this news.
[00:05:43] This episode is presented by Time Track Go.
[00:06:52] You can call 888-321-9922. That's 888-321-9922.
[00:06:57] Let's go.
[00:06:58] For sure, one, gig work, payroll can be in gig work.
[00:07:02] We're getting young people excited.
[00:07:04] No, you probably can't jump into a Walter and I are definitely researching a lot. And if you all payroll folks, if you're worried, like, oh my God, my job is going to go with, no, not yet. Not yet. We're a long way from that. So I would say invest in yourself.
[00:08:20] Technology, there is a statement out there
[00:08:24] that's floating around the more that your job can be documented the HR leader, whoever's making that paid system decision is not going to be like, Oh, hey, no, this system runs totally autonomously. You just build it out and then let it run. No. So they're going to want somebody to liaise be in between the company and that system. So that could be so we get it invested in yourself.
[00:09:45] It breaks technology and these things will, it will impact you a lot less.
[00:09:45] Yeah. And that's all I had to say, but that's good stuff. And it seemed like there's light years versus what it was back in the day. I remember when we were kids when the cell phones came out, you know what I'm saying? Like we self-un That like suitcase that you held and again, like it was crazy.
[00:11:02] Yeah, it was crazy.
[00:11:04] So like technology has changed. efforts. They are dedicated to delivering payroll excellence and sharing their expertise through their podcasts, their webinars and more. Join them as they explore the world of global payroll and its impact on businesses and individuals. Welcome Max. We have our guest Max Vander Klyss Bussing. But Max, how do you pronounce
[00:12:26] that? What's the right way to pronounce that? Regrettity so I'm like most other payroll professionals have fell into payroll. I hope we can get rid of that term in the not so distant that people have confused payroll as a career. I remember I started on the 7th of June 2006 in payroll. Wow. Yes, very specific day because I remembered I was a high university dropout.
[00:13:42] Yeah, that's how my payroll career started we've been prepping for this, we're trying to get young people excited about payroll this year, this season forever now, because unfortunately, we are an aging group. We are easing out of payroll, and there's not a lot of folks behind, the young folks in the game kind of to take over for us.
[00:15:01] So we want to get young people excited about payroll.
[00:15:05] And before we talk a little bit about that, process payroll back in the days that just helped to innovate the platform with the next person to you. So I basically just love working for Bayes are because it combines payroll and all my use of experience. And I can help people with roles that I've been in for the past years. So I know their feeling and know their needs, what they need and what they don't need. So I think it's a perfect fit.
[00:16:23] That's not easy. Yeah. And I think that's what me and I just don't even edit. I just put my thoughts on paper. I send it to our content specialists for editing if there are no spelling mistakes.
[00:17:42] But for the rest, it stays the same.
[00:17:44] So yes, I'm not a native speaker, which how to mobilize the people or the young people to join the payroll,
[00:19:02] then I would have shared it. But I think my of my days at Shell, for instance, I also work at Shell, there was a great program where graduates were hired and they rotated within different functions almost every year and they went on assignments. But they never worked in payroll.
[00:20:20] Oh, wow.
[00:20:21] They touched payroll within HR.
[00:20:23] So then it got me thinking, the right job for her. She's doing sales right now. She's excited about it. So I'm happy I'm not going to divert her. If she goes on, maybe she could go into payroll sales later. I think sales is the greatest skill to have. And I didn't know that young, right? I wish I knew that young. So yeah, I thought about the same thing. And we won't deny our also thinking of how do we get
[00:21:40] that first associate's degree program going for payroll, right?
[00:21:46] Because it absolutely can be an associate's degree program around the hashtag beat they were hashtag choose payroll which I think is a great initiative because just a different way of looking at it but choose payroll right just like Walt did choose payroll yep but not roll into payroll and by the way if everyone anyone ever rolls into payroll they will never roll out of payroll no just follow in law yeah yeah that's exactly
[00:23:01] what do you guys think in terms of the world of payroll. And that's exciting
[00:24:23] because payroll is an ever-changing boxes, right? And then people say, yeah, of course I want that. I said, well, go join the force. Yes. I love it. I love it.
[00:25:40] Yes.
[00:25:40] Yes.
[00:25:40] Oh, man, you really said it.
[00:25:43] You articulated it so well with the we can't force them into pay. who were building the islands there in Dubai, right? If you would say this without mentioning Payroll, and then also which Payroll got me there. People would be like, okay, yes, that's exactly right. That is excited for a young person. I can only imagine how exciting that was for you
[00:27:00] to be in that position.
[00:27:02] Oh yeah, I was really nervous.
[00:27:04] And I had to experience. Look be the eye guy Yeah, I'm a dredging wreck. Oh, I said let's look each other really I what so why are you angry? Let me help you
[00:28:24] Yes, that's true. I love the investigation part of calendar year. So that's how I learned that so I love that max is such a great conversation Right and what I've noticed as well is if you do global payroll my last job think we had around 20 plus countries so just do this dynamic times 20 yep where
[00:30:47] Well, the way that we explain global is the same as multi-state and it's nuanced the same way state by state country by country
[00:30:52] Type of thing except for the languages. I did not think of that part. That is exactly right Wow
[00:30:58] Wow in it. We're always learning something new for I get stuck to think about okay. That's also now We know that folks right global payroll is not just
[00:31:01] W calendar year so wait a minute and the tax authorities to the payroll providers with the affected tax rate that people could actually choose. So there's no tables. There is a personalized tax rate.
[00:32:21] And by the way, the fraud space is typically two pages because
[00:32:25] that's how many pay elements that are on the page. across countries? Do you think it'll ever get to that point? I think no. There is a lot of harmonization done for Israel within the European Union on this coordination rules. I certainly maybe think about it. Yeah. But there's also a recognition within the EU that culturally it's just different, right? And it's okay to be
[00:33:40] different. And it's so also just think. Nah, this is this is great stuff. Thanks. Yeah. No, thank you for sharing that. We're real. I'm almost like the lead.
[00:35:00] Oh, it's all coming back to me now.
[00:35:02] Yeah, I see.
[00:35:03] I can tell because I see the brain, the wheels moving.
[00:35:05] We already talked about the second question we had. It's almost like that, right? They could see me working to the gym or school or swimming lessons or whatever, which I love to do, but flexibility, I think overall, is something that people won't really do. They won't want to do with Dolly Parton 9 to 5 anymore. I go to the office just like my old dad. I think flexibility is amazing.
[00:36:21] And then remote basically opens up working for any type of company you need to be in the office five days a week and you need to be there nine to five. Like, we're not gonna do that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I love how the young folks and I love it really good. We were just talking about me and what how long we've been doing this and what the changes we've seen, pay transparency being a big one in the US and how long we've
[00:37:43] been doing. Yeah. And the change is it's crazy push and this big automation push. And then we have the DNA of the payroll professional who likes to check,
[00:39:04] recheck and do everything.
[00:39:06] So I think regardless of if you're doing domestic payroll, I'm like, Max, have you gone mad? These are my countries. I know them in and out. I said, do you want to go on leave during Christmas and New Year's Eve? For sure. I said, somebody needs to do the work. That's right. So some you need to explain to someone else. That's right. How it works. And I started that evolution from maybe February, March.
[00:40:21] And yes, that here, she went out only for two weeks.
[00:40:25] Didn't touch her laptop at all,
[00:40:27] because she knew we also know her country. not job security. Like you said, knowledge is to be shared. If not, it's not meaningful. So that's such a great call. I love that you have reaffirmed for us and for the payroll is out there, right? Don't be afraid to look, you got to stretch investing yourself. Don't be afraid to stretch and do other things in payroll is frustrating. It's scary. But
[00:41:40] this the only way you grow is to keep stretching into other things. You get to do benefits.
[00:41:45] You get to learn about taxes. You get to learn about finance. You get to learn about HR. Coffee. Biscuits or scones? None. Remope or in office. Remotes. Okay. What does it mean by this one? Tax setup or payroll integration? Oh, oh. I was a payroll integration.
[00:43:02] All right. All right. Of course, the advice I would give to young paraprofessionals is first of all, you've chosen the right profession. And second of all, just ask. Never assume just ask. That's how I learned in my career by asking others for their advice, for their help,
[00:44:23] their point of view, or asking them for feedback,
[00:44:25] which can be scary.
[00:44:26] I've chosen remote,
[00:45:40] I do love to actually see people as well.
[00:45:44] So I would love to see everyone there.
[00:45:46] Awesome.
[00:45:46] That's going to be awesome.
[00:45:47] Yeah, let're missing. Yes, that's right. Thank you.
[00:47:00] Check out plug and pay. I love it. Thank you, Max. Have a great
[00:47:05] one. Before we sign off, here are a couple of quick things.
