In this episode of JobBoardGeek, we join our hosts Steven Rothberg, Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of College Recruiter, and Jeff Dickey-Chasins aka the Job Board Doctor along with guest speaker Kasia Lynch of NihongoJobs.
The episode begins with a brief discussion regarding Recruit's new app released in Japan that focuses on hiring retirees. Jeff makes connections between the Japanese and the United States labor market. He suggests that an app like Recruit might have similar success in the United States. Steven gives a shout-out to Retired Brains, a US based app that does just that. Steven shares his fear that some employers might hire retired folks as a substitute for paying and treating the traditional workforce properly.
Kasia Lynch joins the conversation and talks about her background living abroad in Japan for 8 years. She details the difficulties in finding work as a non-native job seeker in Japan and how this pushed her to create her blog, Ikigai Connections. The success of her blog led to an influx of messages regarding prospective job opportunities and thus came the creation of her job board website, NihongoJobs.
The group discusses gig websites and their place in Japan's labor market. Kasia shares the new opportunities in this realm that have become more abundant because of the pandemic. And Jeff shares his own gig experience, helping foreign job boards with their English ad postings.
