[00:01:31] Today we're talking about potluck dinners. It's the holidays. Oh, potluck lunches rather. It's holiday season. And I feel like we talk about it every year cause it's such a talking point at work.

[00:01:45] It's such a thing. Right. We'll found a bunch of horror stories.

[00:01:49] Yeah.

[00:01:50] Um, oh, you have actually, so we got a few in the pay news update too, that we can talk about.

[00:01:55] Yeah. Yeah.

[00:01:56] I got some do's and don'ts for the main things. And then we're going to talk about some horror stories and then we're going to have at the end, you know, we do that little question at the end where we're going to do, would you rather?

[00:02:08] Yeah.

[00:02:08] Yes. I'll just read it through. So you got five. So look, you want to do the first three. I'll do the last two.

[00:02:13] Yeah, let's do it.

[00:02:14] Okay. All right. So the first, the first one, and these are horror stories like for potlucks. All right. There was a, they call this one the epic mayo disaster.

[00:02:23] It happened in 2018 at a bank of America office in Charlotte, a potato salad was left exaggerated for four hours. How that happened? I don't know.

[00:02:34] Well, cause they brought it in the morning and they left it on the counter until lunch. Come on.

[00:02:39] And as a result, 12 employees called in sick the next day.

[00:02:45] We can laugh after the fact.

[00:02:47] And I hope, and I hope that there weren't raisins in the potato salad.

[00:02:50] Word. No raisins in the potato. Wait, you know what's funny? My, in my family, my aunt does it with apples.

[00:02:57] That I'm not mad at that.

[00:02:58] No, no fruit in my potato salad, please.

[00:03:02] No nuts.

[00:03:04] I'm real basic on the, wait a minute. So how you do potato salad?

[00:03:07] So I do, I like the Southern.

[00:03:09] I think what's that?

[00:03:10] I think they put a little bit of, I don't like the mustard.

[00:03:15] I like mustard.

[00:03:16] So I take that a little bit.

[00:03:18] A little paprika, the egg, some celery, onion.

[00:03:22] Sometimes I can do the red skin potatoes.

[00:03:24] Okay. Yeah. That's like a, yeah.

[00:03:26] They have a different style for that one.

[00:03:28] Yeah. I said mustard.

[00:03:29] My wife turned up. She was like, she don't like mustard.

[00:03:32] I had.

[00:03:32] What's the next one?

[00:03:33] The next one was the great nutmeg mix up.

[00:03:37] 2019.

[00:03:37] It happened at a Seattle tech startup where an employee who made the eggnog misread the recipe.

[00:03:45] So it's one fourth teaspoon.

[00:03:47] They put in 14 teaspoons.

[00:03:50] And I don't know if you know this, but nutmeg is a strong additive, right?

[00:03:53] I didn't know that.

[00:03:54] It can cause nausea.

[00:03:55] It could cause anxiety.

[00:03:57] It can cause, some people say it could cause hallucinations too.

[00:04:01] If you take too much of it.

[00:04:03] Oh my gosh.

[00:04:04] So it affected the entire marketing department.

[00:04:08] Yo, that's crazy.

[00:04:11] And then the last one that I have is, well, somebody did a vegan prank at a law firm in Chicago.

[00:04:18] Someone labeled real meat as vegan meat substitute.

[00:04:54] The eggnog made me think of one year, like I'm Puerto Rican.

[00:04:59] So every year we do coquito, which is this Latino version.

[00:05:02] A few Latin cultures do it, right?

[00:05:05] Yeah.

[00:05:05] So we gift it a lot of times.

[00:05:06] It's a really nice gift for folks that like it or whatever.

[00:05:09] I remember one year I brought it to work as a gift and got in, not in trouble, but hey,

[00:05:15] you can't bring alcohol in and that.

[00:05:18] And you got, and I was like, oh yeah, no, it's just a gift.

[00:05:22] We're not drinking at work.

[00:05:23] Yeah.

[00:05:25] HR.

[00:05:25] You get HR.

[00:05:26] Call the HR.

[00:05:28] Okay.

[00:05:29] All right.

[00:05:30] I got two.

[00:05:30] So this was called the famous death by chocolate incident.

[00:10:12] Include a spice level warning.

[00:10:14] If you're channeling your inner, quote, in Ramsey.

[00:10:17] That's a, but that's a good one.

[00:10:19] Not everybody can handle spicy stuff.

[00:10:21] You can handle it and your stomach can handle it.

[00:10:24] Somebody else like, does it?

[00:10:32] Nobody wants lukewarm mac and cheese or melted ice cream or melted ice cream cake.

[00:12:05] We use an online doc or something to, or there's a ton of online tools that you can share and everybody sees who's

[00:12:13] bringing what type of dip, if you're going to do it right.

[00:13:17] We need, maybe we need an appetizer.

[00:13:24] Or you get permission from your bosses to make sure, Hey, we're good with this.

[00:13:32] One of our, one of, one of the spots I was at years ago did a Thanksgiving thing and I was

[00:13:39] in the HR department and I was like, no potluck.

[00:13:42] And what they did was they got single meals from, I think it was like Boston market type of place

[00:13:49] And everybody had a single dish and it was a pre single package.

[00:13:56] Every was, and I thought that was great because our meals were separated.

[00:14:40] Number one, the number one don't is save that tick tock recipe, especially if you're

[00:14:45] doing it for the first.

[00:14:48] Save that experimental, experimental cooking for your family because they're the ones who

[00:14:52] really have to love you.

[00:14:54] Word.

[00:14:55] There was a re try it on them first.

[00:14:57] And then you can wait.

[00:14:58] Get a taste.

[00:14:59] There was a, I don't know if you remember a WeWork, right?

[00:15:02] They had a curry situation that I guess is still talked about in tech circle.

[00:15:08] So maybe somebody tried to make curry for the first time and then, and then go over well.

[00:15:12] So like you want to stick to your greatest hits.

[00:15:14] So if you're known for something like, for instance, his family, his mama is known for

[00:15:20] that cornbread and chili.

[00:15:22] Now trust me when I say it's hitting.

[00:15:24] It's bussing.

[00:15:25] Trust me.

[00:15:25] You know what I'm saying?

[00:15:26] So stick to your greatest hits and save that extra experimental jazz fusion you want

[00:15:33] to work on.
